BODY ART MOTION
Body Art Motion (BAM) is a spiritually inspired movement arts community based in Calgary with all-levels classes taught by international performer and author Tanya Lee. In collaboration with artist Jai Benteau, BAM is bringing a new performance art piece to Satellite Festival 2023. BAM aims to create every piece as a unique adventure for body, mind and soul that captures the energy of the moment.
One of their favorite things to do is LIVE improv with talented musicians! They’ve had the honor of taking the stage alongside celebrated artists such as William Close & The Earth Harp Collective, CloZee, Beats Antique, Sheri-D Wilson, Pumpkin, Bass Caravan, El Papachango, ATYYA, QDUP, Drumspyder, and JPOD.
With 20 years stage experience, BAM is backed with a rich history of performances curated for both local and international production companies including Art Spot, Bass Bus, Calgary Downtown Association, Calgary Arts Academy, Canwest Productions, Le Cirque de la Nuit, Sparq Productions, TEDx, Make Fashion, Masks International, and University District.
Their shows have played on stunning local Calgary stages such as the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Grey Eagle, The Palace, cSPACE, and Bella Concert Hall; as well as mainstage features at local events such as Calgary Tattoo & Arts Festival, Circle Carnival, Diner En Blanc, Glow Fest, Northwestival, and Calgary Taboo Show. And in 2019 they took a team of performers overseas for a 10 day tour in honor of the first national public art initiative in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Land Acknowledgement by:
On Saturday we have the pleasure of presenting Aba, also known as Evening Star, who will be performing traditional Native American dance and will do a land acknowledgement and blessing.
Those who were in attendance last year, may remember her there as a vendor with her beautiful beaded jewelry. We are pleased to welcome her back and honoured for her contributions to the land, the festival and all of us!
“My name is Evening Star, an Ojibwe-Metis creator based in Calgary (Treaty 7 Land). My creations range from neo-traditional jewelry, to traditional regalia, paintings, and custom pieces. My inspiration comes from my community, ancestral teachings, as well as experiences that birth new creative ideas and opportunities. My business, Sweetgrass & Sage, was born with the idea that I would be able to preserve my culture, enrich my community, and decolonize clothing.”

JAI BENTEAU | ZEPHRŸM
For as long as I can remember, art and the creative process have been a fundamental cornerstone in how I choose to move through the world. My life has had many varied paths, each providing new context, inspiration and fuel for this creative fire that burns deep in my soul. I identify as an interdisciplinary artist who is passionate about blending visual and performance art with auditory landscapes and immersive environments. The thread that ties them all together is a deeper soul connection to spiritual identity and self-knowledge.
A graduate of the Alberta University for the Arts and the International Academy of Art & Design in Montreal, Jai has had a dynamic and creative impact on events, productions and performances over the past 20 years. From his leadership roles in Calgary’s Le Cirque de la Nuit to his onstage performances in the powerhouse performance groups Bass Caravan and Ethoterra, Jai’s creativity has helped shape the face of the Calgary underground arts scene.
Art Installation by:
Susan Stewart is the visionary behind Satellite Music + Art Festival. Inspired by her travels all over the world as well as her upbringing in the arts, she has long wanted to bring a music event together that also incorporates art inner spirituality and community.
Susan grew up in the art industry with her mother being well-known bronze sculptor, Linda Stewart who made the heroic-sized sculpture outside of the BMO Center (once called The Round Up Centre) titled The Round Up. Her work is found in homes all over the world and owned by many famous musicians, politicians and tv personalities.
Her father was an art agent and gallery owner. Prairie Winds Gallery started over in Keromeos, BC and eventually resided in Fort MacLeod, AB. The family traveled all over North America to galleries and shows which gave Susan a huge appreciation for art of all types, including music.
Susan Now owns a lifestyle store that offers crystals, esoteric goods, natural health items and original art. She has experimented with many art forms but favours oil painting as her medium of choice. Ethical taxidermy, bone art, collage and textile art have also been favourites. This will be her first large-scale installation, so with excitement and a touch of trepidation, she is excited to add to the beauty of the sacred land that Satellite Festival calls home.
SUPER NOVA CIRCUS
Long ago our ancestors would look to the stars for guidance, purpose and light. As the brilliance of technology began to outshine the light of the stars, we were forced to search for wisdom in other places. While this light may be hidden in modern times, the knowledge of the stars is eternal and their stories are not forgotten.
For a dedicated group of artists in the heartland of Canada, the old ways and the new have come to find harmony in art. With fire in their hearts and fire in their hands, SuperNova performance art breathes life into the ancient stories hiding in our constellations.
When a star ends it’s story; it becomes a supernova, and for a brief moment, it is the brightest thing that exists in the entire universe. Come and witness the Supernova. One of the most rare and truly beautiful forces in the galaxy.

WORKSHOP: ART THERAPY
by Jenn Seniuk
“Art Is The Meeting Ground Of The World Inside & The World Outside.” – Elinor Ulman
Jenn Seniuk, a Provisionally Registered Art Therapist and Certified Canadian Counsellor will be at Satellite Music + Art Festival with a workshop to kickstart your Saturday!
When the art enters the therapy space, the client then has an opportunity to change the narrative, add support, make choices or take away what no longer feels safe. The art becomes a metaphor for what the client is emotionally healing.
Jen will lead us to create art that represents what you do not want to hold during the festival and going forward – fear, anger, resentment etc., and tear it up and put it in an envelope with blessings. The use of sage, rose petals etc will be used to release these messages and send them on their way.
WORKSHOP: MAGIC MULTIPLIER
by LivingTree Creations
Here’s a fun class to get into ‘possibility thinking’ coupled with tangible, real-world action steps. The best part? It’s designed to be in alignment with our higher selves. A potent combination for manifestation and magic.
We begin by collectively brainstorming about our future lives. Then, we draw our goals out representationally – like a vision board (stick figures work great here). After we use the Love Smart Cards to write down the feelings of our goals being met – and even wildly surpassed!
Next we draw the feelings we chose from the love smart cards abstractly. It helps us create a visual symbol of how we could feel.
Then, we check again with our initial goals. Do they still fit with our heart’s desire and our feeling state?
Finally, we share in groups of 3 or 4 our desired emotional state, tangible outcome/goal and 1-3 steps we could take to get there. Here is where the artist may ask for input on how they can reach their goals.
We are very excited to welcome @naturenootropics back to the festival this year. From Cordyceps and Lions Mane and beyond, Nature Nootropics has the best info out there. They not only grow their own products, they work wide by side with scientists to make cutting-edge products and discoveries.

HIPPY & WITCHY
“The world needs more positivity and love.. yes this is the hippy side speaking. I’m not saying we need to hold hands and skip around the fire singing all we need is love… although the witchy side is like YES lets get naked and dance around the fire to drums under the moon! I’m saying we all could use a little boost sometimes and some cheering on, which is why I decided to create a space where all would be accepted and we could help each other. As the adventure began to create this space, I realized how similar Witchcraft was to the spiritual and psychic things I was doing. This could totally be combined and work! So I combined the two and have not turned back!”
